Dr. Tom Jefferys PhD, MHC, MFT

Dr. Thomas Jefferys holds a PhD in Depth Psychology, an approach focused on understanding the deeper emotional patterns and stories that shape behavior. He also holds a Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy and a Master’s in Mental Health Counseling and has worked with individuals and couples across multiple levels of care.

Dr. Tom works with men, women, and couples seeking greater emotional clarity, relational strength, clearer communication, and a deeper understanding of the messages driving their conflicts and patterns. His clinical work often centers on three core emotional struggles—anger, guilt, and shame—and the underlying causes that keep these patterns in motion. He helps clients move beyond surface symptoms to address the emotional roots of reactive behaviors.

In addition to relational and identity-based work, Dr. Tom has extensive experience helping individuals address addictive behaviors, including substance use, compulsive patterns, and other self-defeating coping strategies. His work integrates insight-oriented therapy with practical, evidence-based tools to support sustainable change.

Throughout his career, Dr. Tom has focused on helping clients better understand the internal conflicts that shape their relationships and life decisions. His approach combines depth-oriented exploration with structured therapeutic methods, delivered with compassion and accountability. He assists clients in developing the tools to befriend themselves again in an honest and grounded way.

Dr. Tom is also completing his book, The Emotional Crippling of American Men: Facing the Psychological Spiral of Anger, Guilt, and Shame, and has written extensively on masculinity, archetypal patterns, and the importance of ritual in psychological growth. He is a contributing writer for Psychology Today.

In addition to his agency work, Dr. Tom is the Founder and Program Director of Rippling Waters Men’s Retreat and Recovery Center in Delhi, NY. Along with his wife, Dr. Laura Maneates, LMHC, co-founder and Clinical Supervisor, they lead weekend retreats for couples (Couples Who Talk, Couples Who Last) and men’s retreats including Breaking the Chains, The Wounded Warrior, and The Hero’s Journey. His retreat work reflects the same therapeutic framework he brings into clinical practice.
